In 1957 the car went to my aunt, and forty-five years later, it came back to me via her will.
My 1955 oval-window Beetle, which I named Viv after my dear aunt, was as basic as you could get.
It didn't have indicators. It had semaphores that popped out when you wanted to turn. It didn't even have a petrol guage.
But now I own another VW.
How times have changed.
The all-electric ID3 is the most sophisticated car I've ever owned. It practically drives itself.
I should call it Viv Mark 2.
Wow! Tony, that sure is a nice car. I'm sure your aunt would be pleased to be the godmother of such a beautiful vehicle : Viv II.

DeleteHi Charles-Henry ... yes I believe Viv is still going, although I am no longer the owner. It was in bad shape when I inherited it and I had a complete restoration done on the old girl. She will last another 50 years! My French is treading water ... while I await the re-opening of French classes. But we do watch a little bit of French TV and listen to French radio in the car. I practise with friends, neighbours and tradesmen! We are still loving France and plan to be here til the end. Have put it a lot of crops in the potager this year but this unrelenting rain has not been good for them, although it is due to fine and warm up next week. Hope you keeping well.
