A visit to the Bordeaux spring antiques fair gave us plenty of ideas on how to furnish our stone house in Bazens.
It was inspirational, but the prices were higher than I'd anticipated.
At least we can move forward with a better knowledge of the type of pieces we want and how much they will cost.
If I were rich, I'd buy the Louis XV chest of drawers in the last photo and the Japanese plate on the left in the first photo. In this first photo, the chest of drawers doesn't look French at all, not even régional! It might be German. The buffet in the second photo is definitely régional. The desk-bookcase is very nice and probably Second Empire. In the time of Napoleon III, they loved black furniture (and red drapes), whether made of ebony or painted black! The combination buffet-armoire, probably a kitchen piece of furniture, is very nice. In the last photo, I like the encoignure next to the Louis XV commode. Good luck, Tony!
ReplyDeleteI just noticed two nice Meiji cloisonnés, a vase and a plate, on the buffet in the second photo.
DeleteDear Charles Henry, your knowledge of antiques is very impressive. Is it the result of professional involvement or amateur interest? Could you drop everything and come to France and help us buy furniture and knick-knacks for our new house?!!!
DeleteJust amateur interest, Tony. I'm dropping everything here in Virginia and flying to Paris this Sunday!
